Curry Night & Comedy To Support Wales Air Ambulance

A Sponsored walk from Swansea to Caernarfon to support the Wales Air Ambulance’s ‘Leap Into Action’ appeal.

Rhys and the team will be walking 200 miles in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance, and we need you to get involved! Along the way, we have sections of the walk that you can join in on, as well as a great selection of entertainment every night!


The Walk

The 200 mile walk will be completed over eight days. The project will be launched with a gala dinner at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Thursday, August 16th, and the walk will commence at Swansea Airport at 8am on Friday August the 17th. The route will take us up the Neath Valley, Storey Arms, Brecon, Builth, Newtown and Welshpool Airport. From there we will travel via Dinas Mawddwy, Dolgellau, Porthmadog and finishing in Caernarfon Airport.

Evening Entertainment

The walk will have eight overnight stops at some of Wales’ most iconic hotels and there will be entertainment and fundraising activities at each evening stop. We will be joined by some of Wales’s top musical acts and some international stars too.

Pistyll Rhaeadr  an enchanting waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains, just inside Wales. At 240ft (80m) high it is the UK tallest single drop waterfall.

King Arthur’s Labyrinth – Found deep beneath the mountains of Southern Snowdonia, King Arthur’s Labyrinth is one of the most mysterious visitor attractions in Mid Wales.

Glansevern Hall Gardens – Over 25 acres of glorious gardens surrounding a Greek revival house of great elegance on the banks of the River Severn.

The Centre for Alternative Technology – CAT is an education and visitor centre which demonstrates practical solutions for sustainability.

Go Ape at Coed-y-Brenin – A wonderful tree top adventure based in the heart of Coed-y-Brenin Forest, North Wales. You’ll enjoy breathtaking scenery, tree top crossings & wind-in-your-face zip wires that will leave you and your tribe with monkey sized grins.

The Elan Valley – The Elan Valley Estate is an area of spectacular beauty and abundant wildlife right in the heart of mid Wales.

Europe’s Longest Zip Line – Zip World won international acclaim when it opened Zip World Velocity at Bethesda in March 2013. It includes a pair of zip lines a mile long, where riders can exceed 100mph, 500ft high and experience the nearest thing to flying.

Hafren Forest – Walk to the source of the River Severn or choose from several waterfall walks of different lengths.

The Hafren Theatre – 548 seat venue in Newtown, Powys showing a very varied programme all year round.

Machinations Visitor Centre – Enjoy a great day out at this unique visitor centre in mid-Wales. We are the only permanent exhibition of contemporary Automata (mechanical moving models) in the UK.

Coed-y-Brenin Mountian Bike Centre – Eight miles north of Dolgellau, Coed y Brenin Forest Park Visitor Centre is the gateway to the forest park.

Mid Wales Shooting Centre – Mid Wales Shooting Centre has established itself as one of the premier clay target facilities in the UK.

Coed-y-Dinas Garden and Country Store – Coed-y-Dinas occupies over 70,000sq feet and comprises a Country Store and Garden & Home Centre. From footwear and cooking utensils, through to chainsaws, tools and camping you can be sure you’ll get what you came for and at a great price!

Powis Castle – Medieval castle rising dramatically above the celebrated garden.

Red Kite Feeding Centre – We are a 200 acre family-run working farm, now famous for our Red Kite Feeding Centre. Hundreds of Red Kites feed here every day. It is a truly breath taking spectacle which we hope you will come along and witness for yourself.

Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway – Opened in 1903 to link the market town of Welshpool to the rural community of Llanfair Caereinion, this 2 foot 6 inch narrow gauge steam railway now provides a tourist service for all the family and a welcome change from the rush of every day life.

Abbey Cwm Hir Hall – The Hall is one of Wales’ most outstanding Victorian homes. A 52 room, grade 11* listed property with magnificent victorian architecture, it overlooks the ruins of the 12th c cistercian “Abbey of the Long Valley” in beautiful countryside bordered to the south by the Brecon Beacons, to the west by the Cambrian Mountains, and to the east by the Marches.

Animalarium – We are a rapidly expanding Zoo in Mid Wales, near Aberystwyth. We are dedicated to conservation and have endangered animals and birds.

Higgins Rally School – Welcome to the Higgins Rally School and Off Road Centre, a school where champions have literally been born and bred.

Mid Wales Art Centre – The Mid Wales Arts Centre features a large Gallery, and a Sculpture Park.

Cambrian Safaris – Cambrian Safaris provides excursions into the Cambrian Mountains in a Land Rover Discovery. Come and enjoy fantastic views and scenery, local history and wildlife. 

Butterfly House, Aberystwyth – Exotic Plants and Butterflies in the stunning Rheidol Valley.

The Spaceguard Centre – The observatory is located on a remote, dark sky site ideal for astronomy, surrounded by the stunning Welsh Marches. On a visit one of the country’s leading experts will explain the structure of the solar system, why we have a problem and how we can solve it.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show


Maesmawr Hall Hotel has been very busy the past few days serving coffees, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners to guests on their way to and from The Royal Welsh Showground.

We were extremely pleased with the comments we received from guests staying in our accommodation who have already booked again for next year!

Now on its third day this year’s show has reached record attendance numbers of 64,769!

Get down to the showground to enjoy the sunshine and the spectacle.
